The National Environment Agency (NEA) has been working with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and monitoring the incident site at 23 Tuas Avenue 11, occupied by Technochem Environmental Complex Pte Ltd.
2 Some of the water used to extinguish the fire had entered the drains leading to the Northern Tuas Basin. Water samples taken by NEA from the Basin showed a slight increase in oil and grease levels following the incident, but the readings have since returned to normal levels today. Technochem has taken precautions to stop any overflow of the water used to extinguish the fire from the site, and is in the process of clearing up contaminated water collected from the drains leading to the Northern Tuas Basin. NEA also conducted on-site air sampling in the surrounding areas of the plant. The air quality in the area has been found to be normal.
3 As a precaution, NEA would like to advise the general public, including workers from nearby shipyards and factories located around the Northern Tuas Basin area, to avoid the waters in the Basin. NEA will continue to closely monitor the situation at the site.
